I'm in the market for a good quality gun safe, and am looking for suggestions and insight on what to get and what to avoid. Is that your personal safe? Did it come with the carpet already installed? Does the carpet hold moisture?
SAFE

http://www.sportsmansteelsafes.com/

They are in Paramount, CA

They do really good safes and custom make them. They make them there so there is no middle man. My safe is about 500 pounds and fire proof to 2300degrees (most safes are 1200degrees only) and the customize the carpet and shelves how every you want them and set it up if your rifles are scoped or not. They also replace your safe for free if you have a fire or someone tries to break into it and damages it.

Mine was $1200.00 delivered (Upstairs) with a ceramic fireproofing and a Digital lock.

Oh you can buy the dehumidifer rod but I havn't needed one.
Thanks I'm going to their site now. Dehumidifier is the name of the game in Houston.
Is all that stuff actually yours or is it your issued gear? Either way, well done!!

The rifle is a reminton 700 (308) in a accuracy international stock.
How do you like the stock? How do you compare it to say the HS Precision or McMillan stocks?
Wow, that really is quite impresive. Im from the UK and no-one has guns here ive never even seen a one in real life ( dont laugh) Im assuming that kind of cache isnt normal?

It really depends on the person and alot of the times where you live. Like down here in Texas almost everyone of my friends has at least a pistol. I have atleast two friends that has either more guns than I do or the same amount. I have a fair amount of guns myself. While the automatic isn't normal for civilians, I do have one friend that does have one.

Yeah it really depends on where you live. I live in a high gang area and automatic weapons are very common but to have them legally is a whole new subject.

And yes mine are issued to me legally from the agency I work for.
SIM:

yeah the gun laws over here are a bit rediculous. I have 3 handguns and a rifle over here in belfast legally (not a paramilitary i might add). Any air rifle here needs a FAC.

Strange that although few people in the UK have firearms, our 22nd SAS is the best in the world!

I disagree. Where you live isn't as important a factor in how many gus you have. It is personal preference. I too live in a high-crime area, but that has nothing to do with the amount of guns I have. Even if I lived out in a low crime area like somewhere in the nortwest, I would still have my own weapons cache. It really is personal preference. For example, me and my brother both like to shoot. My brother is perfectly happy with his two guns, a Walther P22 .22lr handgun and a Savage .17 hmr rifle. I also like to shoot, yet I am not happy with the dozen or so guns I have at any given moment. I am constantly buying and selling them to fulfill any little need I may have, or think I need for my collection. Now of course your area of residence will have some effect on your armament, as someone living on a ranch in Texas will, on average , have more firearms than someone living in an artist's lounge in Manhattan. But it is mainly a question of personal preference (and of course the amount of money you have to put into these things! :D )

FLEA, I have always wondered about the MP5SD intregal suppressor. What is the life expectancy of it? Can it be replaced easily if it wears out?
subThermal:

Life expectancy is about 5000-25000 rounds depending on which version of the SMG and suppressor, and it's not very easy to replace it, since you have to replace the whole barrel.

^ ^ ^Agreed....mine has about 10,000 rounds though it and I have notice a change in supression sound.
FLEA:

Ok. Mine's in pretty good shape, only around 4000 rounds through it.
