well i figured people are posting pics of their knives, so ill post a pic of mine (caution EXTREEMLY SHARP)
although its not traditional, it looks pretty cool

You are all right, except for practice swords. If a blade has never drank the blood of your enemies then it has no taste for it, and does not require it. But yes, most samurai would apply a small cut to their thumb when they sheathed the sword.
