I think thermal is a better solution than night vision. Night vision allows any hard surface to provide concealment. Thermal requires a thermal barrier to provide concealment.
Oh, and antibiotics. I suspect people will trade ammo and guns for antibiotics, provided you have ammo and guns to keep the trade safe.

Amazon has small packs of Neosporin for your bug out bag med kit. Tourniquet? Israeli bandages, quick clot.
