question about the Rem 700 action

at the base of the breach where the bolt lugs are located i noticed on the side where the bolt handel is there is a little hole i was wondering what is the purpous of the hole?

Someone told me once why it was there......I can't remember, I know I'm going to feel dumb when someone posts it here. ARRH I can't remember :x

I guess I didn't bother to remember cuz it wasn't that important....BUT NOW I WANNA KNOW!
