not sure where to put this so i think ill put it here....

if i want to work out to 600 yards with my .308... what zero should i choose....

i currently have it zeroed at 100yds.... and my scope allows holdover points.... of 4, 8, 15, and 20 moa....

curious as to whether or not it is capable of reaching 600 yards with a zero of 100....?????

Well, a common mistake that people make is thinking that a "Zero" is a fixed thing. Your zero constantly changes. In fact, if you know your ballistics, you can dial in what ever up elevation to get to 300, and then your rifle is zeroed for 300. Now, what "zero" do you normally keep it on? Well, for that answer it comes down to "at what range will you be shooting the most?". If you do 70% of your shooting at 200, then keep the rifle zeroed at 200, and then know the adjustments you need to make to get to each range - 100, 300, 400, 500, 600.

For me, I like to keep my rifles dialed in at 600m because I know the hold offs on a human target at 100-700. But I also have a BDC on most of my field rifles, so I can easily dial in the range on the scope also....

Guess I'm not really giving you a clear answer am I? Sorry

Pretty fun question, lol, if you're a geek like me anyway.

I checked out my table and with Federal's 175 grain GMM, it says with a zero of 100 yards you'd be dropping 102.6 inches at 600 yards. That would be 17.1 minutes, I think, so with a 15 minute hold off you wouldn't be exact...I'm gonna record my zeroes for 100, 300, and 600 yards when I get my new scope and new 30-06, and try to use them all, usually at a 300 yards zero.

Same GMM load for you at 300 yards would be dropping 71.3 inches at 600 yards for an 11.8 MOA....That would be shootin' 5.2 inches high at 100, and 6 inches high at 200.

so... if it is 17.1 moa drop then the allotted 15 plus 2 minutes of dial would be 17.... just trying to keep it close to the original zero
