I voted for other, but let me explain. I think the S/S grey would be better than black, BUT i also think the coyote would give you a good contrast with the black stock.

To throw some more options at you:

There is a chance that we are going to switch to powder coating the metal work of the rifles, and teflon coat the bolts (for smooth operation, its looking like powder coat is a bit too binding for the bolts). If we go this route, we can do just about any color you can imagine in powder coat!

In terms of camo, sorry, for right now, just too much man hours work to do it for the price of the rifles. But there is nothing preventing someone from adding some camo to suit their environment!

Everybody and their uncle has a black Tactical rifle.

I'd be looking at a DARK grey, like the blot on my Patriot - I think the one that Mel demoed had a grey bolt too.

Doh! More color options? Mel and I had talked about powder coating. To be honest I would prefer that option. The finish would be ultra tough and require almost no maintenance, aside from a wipe down. Now the color… I don’t suppose anyone out there has the ability to photo shop up some combinations?

I have to agree with Jeffvn, every tactical rifle I see is all black. And now I am thinking about the Coyote and perhaps the Dark Grey, but still not sure how that would look with the black stock.

Keep the ideas coming guys!!

Gee if you want play with powder coating I will volunteer by baby for a test mule. I am just getting ready for the camo anyway, I am going with a medium to dark tan as a base, with shades of green and brown over the base. Not sure on the pattern yet, but most guys around here use natural vegitation as stencils. For the over coats, we use cheap paint so we can change it easy season to season or fix dings. Love the thought of powder coat for a base though. I like tan for base color very adaptable and ther is always brown around even in an urban area.

thanks for the offer mlammers. But we have a barreled action that was powdercoated and just shipped back to us today. I think we have something that is going to work great. I especially like the bolts being teflon coated for smoothness. We have to run a few more tests to be sure all is going to function well, then we are going to switch over to all powder coating.

One thing that will become a trade mark. All of our bolts will be matte teflon black, no matter the color of the rest of the metal. It will be a nice contrast.

I think you should get creative with it and choose a color that suits you best.

Black is a very common color but if thats what you like then by all means. I don't think you should base your decision on what "everybody else has". Not on the color of your metal parts. Especially if camo or going undetected for hunting or stalking is not an issue.....definately not color.

Choose what YOU like bud.

Hey Mel just kidding on the sending mine out, I do like the teflon idea on the bolt too. What kind of luck have you had with the gunkote? Also would you powder coat other guys rifles if they sent them to you, or where could we get it done?

Well, honestly, I do not like gun kote. We did several of our first rifles in it (as well as my swede scout rifle) and i'm just not happy with it. Its more durable than the teflon, but it does not bound well around srew holes or other spots. If you do not have perfect metal prep, its not that great. Teflon is much better in terms of preping the metal, and it bounds with the metal better. But its not as hard or durable. I think this powder coat/teflon bolt mix is going to be ideal!! The finish on the bolt lugs and stuff will wear away, but thats to be expected with any coating, and the good thing about teflon is that it penetrates and keeps lubricating even when the visible color has worn away. I'm very excited about this.

I'm working with "Dead Roman" here on the forums, he is doing my powder coating. I'm sure we can arrange something for others to either go through me, or straight through Roman. I will be sending the barreled actions completely stripped and ready for blast and spay.

The power coating and Teflon combination sounds most excellent!

Is there any chance of seeing a color chart for the power coating? I have checked out suppliers online and their seams to be a very large amount of variation in what is available in color and textures. Looks like just about anything is possible

Mel, I may get in touch by phone Sunday, I have guy giving me his 700 for a "tune up". He wants a refinish, I can repark, or matte blue, but the powder coating may be a good alternative. What is the price structure, and color availability? I may also ask him if he likes the teflon finish. The rifle is currently painted over not so nice blueing. The stock is a OD green Choate, so green may be an option, or tan as a base for a camo set up. He is shooting about MOA with the factory barrel, so I am looking at a trigger job, and maybe a barrel, depends on his wallet an what he truly wants the rifle to do. Thanks for the info on gunkote he was asking about it, and I had not tried it.

Yes, we will have color charts soon. But there are tons of colors available. Pretty much can do the same we were talking before: black, grey, green, brown....

mlammers, contact me on sunday, we'll see what we can do.

not trying to go around mel here but i will be working on a barrel that will have several different colors on it so you guys will have something to go by, as soon as im done with that barrel(sometime during mid next week hopefully) i will be sending several of our suppliers' color charts to mel so you all will be able to see the options. Basically, the possibilities are endless.
