I have the SC2 Barreled action completed (no finish on it yet). The HS Precision stock was ordered today, unfortunately it'll be 8-10 weeks before it shows up. But, I happen to have a takeoff stock from a 700P here, so I'm going to use that for initial testing while I wait for the new one to show up. Its chambered in .260, and I'll first test it all out with some factory loads, and then start finializing on the SC 260 LR load we'll have custom made for us.

The 260 rem is a .308 case necked down to 6.5, and ballistic equilivant to 6.5x55 an exellant round. What the 260 has over the 6.5x55 is the 260 can go into a short action.

For your custom .260 load, I suggest that you take a look at using either IMR-4350 or H4350.

And use Lapua or Sierra Matchkings. You might also try loading some 120 grain Nosler Ballistic tips.

Well, since we are on the subject....

I will start by using the Lapua 123gr Scenar with H4350. The goal is 2900fps out of a 22" barrel. I may have to go to a 24" to get the velocities. I will accept anything over about 2850, but trying (safely and under 60,000 PSI) for 2900fps.

When I was talking to a couple of different barrel manufacturers they actually said that the 6.5-08 is slightly different than the 260 rem. I had previously heard that they were the same. They stated that the throat is cut slightly differently due to how the shell casings are made for each of the two rounds.

This sound right? Just curious, sorry to further hijack the thread!
