Pursaunt to Mel's request here is my sit rep from SHOT 2005.

This place is CRAZY - two full conference halls (at least 100,00 sq. ft. each), at least a 1,000 booths.

Mel's native G2 is showing. Many vendors double up or othewise combine their booths. I heard that GA Precision is sharing a booth with Badger. I'll be looking for them tomorrow morning. HD rifles (I met Jeff this morning) is set up in the with US Optics booth and have the newest HD Rifles / Carlos Hathcock/ White Feather rifle sitting there this morning - Hell-of-a rig let me say if it shoots as sweet as it looks that is goning to be AWESOME.

I met JBW#3, and will chat with Wendell the main tech guru tomorrow. There are probably 4 custom pistol makers teamed up in the LTW booth.

Scoop alert (straight from JBW#3 this morning) - US Optics will be offering a 5-28X SN-3 within 3 to 6 months.   It will be offered in the 44mm reground objective and the low profile ergo front end (it will also be offered in the 58 and 80mm objectives). :D :D :D If you have not looked at the SN-3 group sale detailed on my Optics thread look hard and SOON. They are gearing up for some serious "contract" work for teh US Military, so their domestic production may fall off a bit.

Mel some scoop on the barrels. Kreiger may be the best but still have tomorrow to go. I'll give you a full report tomorrow after I talk with the Broughton folks.

Tried to enter the postal match today, second attempt. Today and yesterday, yesterday being the first (really?), yeilded a much more depressing story. I awoke and thought "do I even want to get up? Nobody hassling me, I'm comfy, just me and my thoughts... But I didn't have enough blankets and got cold. I look out the window, three inches of snow, damn. Maybe I can shoot out of the shed. With an hour, I set out. Retrieving the (now) rusty(er) frames from the back of my snow filled truck, I posted two targets: one to check zero, and the comp target. However, electrical tape won't adhere to rusty angle iron well. Running out to set them up, I thought "yeah, that's 100" and ran back. I decided when I got back to the shed they were not as far as I thought. "Ok," I said, "I'll check when I'm set up". More time is used. As is turns out, the dirt pile backstop wasn't a straight shot fom the open space I planned to use, so I set up underneath the service truck. "This'll be fun. I'll just pretend I'm a SWAT sniper taking out rhinos escaped from the zoo. And I have amazing ammo to kill a rhino with a .308". "Okay, that measures... 8 inches tall? Mildot Master says... 80, hmm, I should move it." I ran back out and moved them in front of the junk pile. I set up again, "Okay, now it's... 112, damn. I think I'll see them from over there now." I take the first shot, thinking the corner of the target coming loose was no biggie, it falls back for a lull in the wind right? BANG! "Where's the hole? I can't see it." I run back out and verify that the bullet missed the paper completely. I get the tape to stick back down and run back. Resuming firing, I see that it's hitting about 3/4 in. to the right. This scope readjusts in 1/8 MOA, so lets do 8 and see where we are. BANG! "That's odd, not even a quarter inch of movement. BANG! My frustration begins to mount as I see I hit the exact same distance away from the dot, on the other side. I become aware that because of my low level of fitness, my heart beat and breathing are heavier and making it more difficult to be steady. I rest a minute, but now have less than a half hour to go. I resume firing and quickly become aware that I am not a good shot. Voices in my head begin as I give one last try: low and directly under the dot. With only 10 minutes to get ready, I close the shed and go. End results summary: The target survived, the shooter is discouraged, and the rifle was put away without being cleaned and is probably rusting from snow and condensation in my safe as we speak. More as my attempts become even more hurried and futile. :(

Jeffvn,

Thanks for the update! I'm excited to hear the barrel report tomorrow.

Kaz,

Ouch!! Rough outting. Either way, send in a bad target, I just want everyone to have fun and enter! Heck, I may scan and post the "worst" target also!

Well, I modified my model 70 for screw in choke tubes, my man. Guaranteed 30 moa when I shoot it in temperatures that killed so many Germans in WW2 in Russia. Dunno what I was thinking.

Did ya clean that gun? Seriously, if you see the pics of mine from yesterday in this thread, when it thawed and the solid ice on it melted it looked like someone dunked it in water.

Supposed to be -6 or some such tomorrow...

Shooting tomorrow, will send some friendly late, as in dead(I hope), and running behind rhinos in just for fun. I also now have 14 types of ammo to shoot up. I will be doing just the base grouping stuff first, and then next trip out the barrier stuff. I also qualify tomorrow on the new rifle for the first time.

Will there be an official excuse thread or can just post here?

...I'm happy I actually hit the little guy a couple times. It was pretty cold here in southern california as well, it must of been like 68, almost arctic for here 8) and I only shot 1 target, the last 5 shots of a long break-in day. My shoulder was hammered :?

My rhinos are celebrating right now, and still laughing from the other day. They might have a close encounter of the AR kind tommorrow.

Well guess what guys, my rhinos are celebrating and laughng as well.

There laughing because no one gets to see the nice holes I put in them.

I just got my letter back because it was water damaged and consequently made the address bleed. :x

Whats worse is that I printed on a nice cardstock 8.5x11 paper in color and my red ricles bled too. :(

I guess I'm out and I have USPS to thank. :?

Stick it in another envelope....I bet Mel will take it as long as the original is postmarked.

Well I would but I'm afraid to pry it open now that its dry. one of the three sides (I tri-folded it) is stuck pretty good to the other. Any suggestions.

I don't want the First SC Postal match to be held up on my account. I had a stroke of bad luck and I'm willing to accept it. I was really excited about it too, even thought its Postal.

You can bet that next Postal Match I will send in H2O-Proof container!

Yeah, the USPS is good about that. They actually ate my cellphone bill one time and sent me a small corner of it with a stamp on it that said "sorry".

Needless to say the subsequent 600 dollar phone bill wasnt fun.
