Yes, it is in the works, with more devoted development beginning on June 7th. Now, one thing to keep in mind, this will more accurately simulate ballistics and sniping then your typical FPS game. It MAY be frustrating to many that are used to the "lasers" that you find in games like DoD, Rogue Spear, etc etc.

A playable demo is planned for January 2005.

Initially, one rifle (M24) one load (M118) simulating US Army sniping. This will expand to different theaters and even different countries armed forces. Realistic ballistics attempting to simulate all conditions.

First go is military only, but there will be limited rules of engagement and "law enforcement" like situations. There may be a nother LE specific version, but not till later.

heh, shouldn't be a problem getting beta testers

Beta Testers

Would it be safe to say that every single one of us would like to be Beta Testers?

What platform would the game be based on?

I too would act as a beta tester - only caveat is that I have virtually no computer programing or language skills. But maybe that's a good thing - I will not be albe to explain why something needs fixed but darn sure recognize that it does.

do you plan to expan to the ps2 and other plat formes  and as far as the expansion of the game i would put out the game than put out an expansion pack (PC) but if you do put it on the ps2 id just bundle it all together and change it in some way like more playable character's and map's

I doubt Mel will get this simulator on PS2, you have to go to Sony and get a kit (that probably would cost some ungodly amount) and then format it. Then get the game into production. All of that would be hard to do.

Sorry Big52, PC/OSX/Linux only. The problem with the console games is that you have to pay royalties. For xbox, its upwards of $10 per copy sold, PS2 isn't far behind. Thats why MSFT, SONY, etc will sell the boxes at a loss, they make money off the games. Sniper Sim hopefully wont cost anyone much more then $15 or so for the full version. (sorry folks, don't hold me to that price, but we'll try)

Mel,

In an effort to tip the scales in my favor I want to mention that; I have exceptional Object oriented programming experience. I would like to be considered for the beta testing positions as they will be limited and crucial to the success of the final release version. I do not feel that my programming experience qualifies me for this position but rather my affinity for realistic and complex sniping games.

Mele - I sense a $$ making opportunity for you. you should hold an auction and have your beta testers pay you for the right to pull their hair out testing the game!!!! :D

Jeffvn : :D good one!! Perhaps I'll just require that the beta testers buy a full copy once testing is complete

Don't worry everyone, there will be a big need for beta testers of all types.

I'll keep people posted, and will probably add a specific update section on SC or these forums with screenshots and progress.

Okay, not to worry, there will be a need for beta testers, and I'll probably announce it on this site.

Platforms will be Windows/OSX/Linux

Can't beat that eh?

MEL
WOW!! I'm looking forward to this one, expecially since you'll be developing for OS X. I'll still be in college, but I can always find time for a FPS :D. You've got an OS X beta tester here.

Does this jhave anything to do with that "Platoon Commander" game, which had a link on the site a while back?

On a different note; do you really think a sniper simulator will work?

Who has the time to sneak around for 24 hours, then lie down for 24 hours, then make one shot, then sneak back for 24 hours, on their PC?

Oh don't underestimate the boredom of working in an office, Yim...or simply living and working friggin close to the North Pole.

Sounds like this sim will be a tad more "complete" than this Long Range Shooting Simulation demo I've tested. It was fun for a while...but when I scored 100% for the fourth time...well...
