this weekend i took a visit to a scheels store in souix falls here in SD--when i was there i was looking at a bunch of heavy barrelled remmingtons. the thing that got me the most is that there was a 700P .308 for 499$!! i thought that was kinda strange- i saw several
VSSF IIs in 223 for around 800 bucks--i also saw that remington made "short varmit rifles" with a slightly shorter barrel and i noticed that the muzzle OD was smaller, but it did have flutes.. the varmit rifle i really want is a VS, VSF, or a VssF in 22-250. do u think a vssf would be a good deal for around 800 bucks guys???

another thing--the vsf has flutes...the vs doesnt--which would be a better choice???

i really appreciate any kind of reccomendations

thanks

They all four are going to be good rifles and perform about the same. I personally like the new VSF, but thats only because I like the stock.

The real question is... can you still get that 700P for $500? If its new, its a money maker. If its not, its still a good deal

new 700P for $500? >>>Sell the ADL and buy that one! (but it sounds used to me)

Varmit rifles- $800 sounds high to me, I only paid $750 for my 5R. That said, like everything else, it all is dependent on your application. 22-250 is an excellent choice so that is set. But as far as VS v. VSF v. VSSF-II ... that is up to you. How much can you get the VS for? I've shot Dan's VSSF and it is an excellent gun. That said, flutes are nice, but not often necessary unless you are out to completely annihilate some p-dogs. I do not honestly believe that VS v. VSSF-II is going to make/break your day. I would recomend, since I know your on a budget, getting a VS or VSF and putting the rest into optics and equipment. Trust me...the most expensive stuff is in the details...

EDIT:

I guess the prices tend to be a little more than I thought, but surely you can find one for under $800. That said...these are worth looking at, especially the first one.

I have never personally worked with them sorry. But I am sure someone on here has. When ever I am looking for prices to compare, gunsamerica is my site.

Guns America is just the means for advertising. (much like ebay, but not auction). You will be dealing directly with the company that is advertising the rifle. If the dealer is in your state, you can order directly and he can ship it to you. But if he is in a different state, then you have to have the rifle sent to a FFL holder in your state, who will then transfer it to you.

I have delt a few times with companies on guns america and they have been fine. Some other web sites worth looking at are:

http://www.gunbroker.com
http://www.auctionarms.com

Of course, if you are going to buy a new rifle online, you might as well ask me, I will give you a good deal also.

today my dad and i visited a locan gunshop and i took a look at their remington varmit guns in 22-250--the one that i liked the most was a VS in 22-250 for 650$$$ they also had a vls for 660$$ i've been doin some thinking and i figured that i'd like to trade my 700 adl .308 for the VS. But idk if i should keep the scope(nikon UCC monarch 5.5-16.5 w\ AO and BC scope caps)or trade it with the gun???? good idea???? any input would be nice--the rifle will be used for varmits, target shooting, and deer.

I'd think you could maybe get more bang for your buck private party, but I don't know. See what the shop is willing to offer then start the negotiations. :p

yah...i'll see what kind of deals i get with them--if they will take the price down on the vs too around 500$$ i'd be happy (without the scope)...sh*t, i'd already be ready to head to the range cuz my dad has 22-250 ammo and i'll have a scope too..
