Anyone using Varget to push a 168 SMK in 308?

using federal 210M (GMM) primers

not generally. you need to push them at least 2,700 fps to keep them supersonic at 1,000 yards. With the 175s you can get it done with most any velocity over 2,550 fps.

Caver- Me and Dan were using 168s but we were using Re-15. I forget the load since I lost my data cards.......... If my memory serves me right, we were using 42.5 gr I believe.

I am very interested in this load to because my 5R seemed to really like 168s. I want a good 168 load, but I also want to play w/ 175s and 190s eventually.

well I have used varget here in Texas, with 150's and 168's and use 46-47 grs with 150's and 45-46 grs with 168's dont have a chrono but it works well in my Remmy's and S&W have used 47 grs in 168's but it is a little warm for my taste just my experience

Have not used Varget with the 168 MK, but use IMR-4895 41.0 gr. Sorry couldn't help.

I think that 45 or 46 is the MAX load on that... so I can see that 47 is a little hot :lol:

caver,yes the max is 46 gr according to hodgen, thr 47 gr load was recommened by a long range shooter at the 1000yd range near Waco ttried it before checking manuals shot well but hot. the 47 gr max for 150's is about that in my guns also usually use 46.5 with 150 sierra and rp brass ww primer and .5-.75 moa thru 3 different rifles my favorite hunting load.
