I am currently looking for a scope for a 300 mag and 338 lapua. I have about a $2500 spending limit. I was just wandering what everybody's opinions are on what scope to get. I am currently leaning towards a US Optics SN-3 1.7-10 or 3.2-17. And also, is the ultra-hires option worth it.

If not that Im thinking about getting a MkIV leupold 16 power scope.

Let me know what yall think.

If you actually intend to spend that much on a scope - and can afford it -thought of Unertl? Not that I think you'll be disappointed with a USO....

But with that kind of money to spend on a scope, the world is at your feet.

I've never used a Mk4 - but I'm not too impressed with any of the cheaper Leupolds...the optics, that is.

Both the USO and Leupold Mk4 are exceptional optics. The USO offers more flexibility with the variable power and the ability to get some nice wiz-bang options as you order.

On the other hand, the Leupold scopes are much smaller and have a cleaner design.

Optical quality and coatings are about the same between the two.

If possible, see if you can get the two scopes side by side to do a comparison of what YOU like best

with that kind of money, you can have a lot of choices.

IOR is also an excellent scope,Kahles,Carl Zeiss, sawroski(sp) etc.

The important thing is go to the shop and compare with the scope side by side, see through them and you'll find out which one is good.

I own a US Optics SN-3, and have nothing but great things to say about them.

If you go that route, make sure you look hard at the 44mm option, there is no need for the 58mm objective lense, unless you intend to hunt in the dark without night vision optics - the 44mm is equal to the 58 in every way, only its significantly lights and smaller (the 44mm lenses is actually a 58mm lens that has been ground down to 44mm, so the glass is exactly the same).
