I can't speak for everyone but this site has both law enforcement, goverment, and military snipers along with long range shooters and people looking to get into one of those fields.

Anyone can be a Sniper. A sniper does not have to be a shooter whose target is human, on the contrary the term Sniper was coined to describe anyone who hunted the willy Snipe, a very fast and agile bird in England.

I would try to contact the nearest police department or talk to someone in the service. There are fewer available positions in law enforcement sniping in England because of their political structure but I feel under current world conditions there may be a reserve contingent. Good luck, and yes you probably have to be 18-21 to be in the law enforcement division i England!

If you see yourself as being unable to take a life, don't get into sniping, as that is the whole point. But if you are interested in the long-range precision aspect of the craft, get a good rifle and spend a day every once in a while at the range. Heck, you can even shoot paper silhouettes, and perfect the sniper skills. I am sure you will find it is a lot of fun. And check with local rules and regs to see about age minimums. Good luck, whichever route you take. And by the way, I am not a sniper myself, but do do a lot of long-range shooting and like discussing and sharing knowledge on the subjects with others. If thats what you like to do, then you've come to the right place, my friend!

Im not sure what the laws are where you live but if you can own a hunting rifle you should be able to own a sniper rifle. You don't have to be in the police or military to learn and have fun at long distance shooting. There are lots of books out there and hopefully a range where you live. Contact you local law enforcement and ask them if they have suggestions for long range shooting classes.

thanks everyone you have been very helpful im suire ill find more questions for you soon :)

i think i'd be mopr einto long range shooting i think i could only take a like if somoen had a gun against somone elses head and was about to use it.

regarding land how much distance do u need to shoot on a friend of mine has a farm i nkow its ok for shotguns because were going clay shooting tomorrow but i doubt ur alowed to use rifles there as there is a road about 800m away and towns about 1.5 miles away wich i guess a rifle could hit.

i'd really like to have a go at target long range target shooting. hopfuly ill be able to find somwere to go thats not to far to travel.

how old to you guys reckon ill have to be to own a rifle im 19 now ill be 20 in september for some reason i think you have to be 21 btu i guess i cold wait till next year.

about rifle do you think the law would allow be to buy guns like a Barrett Model 82A1 for target shooting that would be fun lol.i dont really know what rifle i'd get i love the walther wa200 and the Dakota T-76 Longbow looks exspensive though

if you do become a sniper you will probably be issued a weapon and my guess is it woudlnt be a WA200 as only 150 of them were produced, Dakota T-76 Longbow well id love one too but they are expensive like you said and i dont think as a law enforcement sniper you would use that or the M82A1 because of overpenetration... you dont want something that will remain lethal at over a mile
as far as getting your own rifle, im sorry i have no clue what your laws are
just ask the police what age you have to be to get into law enforcement and what age you have to be and what permit you need to own a rifle and what you need to do to get it

The barret m82 falls under some assault weapons ban (yes I said assault weapon) as dumb as that sounds any semi auto map feed rifle is dubed an assault rifle. Depending on your state you might be able to have one.

I actually know of a bunch of LEO's that have them but havn't heard of them needing them yet.....its lways good to have your bases covered though.

law enforcement doesnt have much of a use for them unless they have to disable vehicles at great distances... not exactly sound for urban environments where the .50 BMG would go through a few buildings and hit innocent people
as far as it being an assault weapon... well it wont make you a better person by having one but i dont see how its an assault rifle or why it should be banned and if you want to spend $7300 hey its your money... this wouldnt get my reccomendation... if you dont go broke from the gun the cost of ammo will get ya

Don't go complaining about gun laws until you live in Canada. The only Semi-auto rifles we can have pretty well have to have 5-10 round capacity magazines MAX. That and a whole bunch of actions and weapons based off of these actions are banned. G3's, AKs, AR15s, M82s, you pretty well name an "Assault Rifle", and it is banned here.

I would have loved to have owned a PSG1 (Outside of the price tag, of course).

The gun laws in california are pretty much the same way....even a psg1 is called an assault rifle.....oh please.

MAX the law on folding a telescoping stock pretain to mostly assualt weapons...not bolt action rifles. Although if you has a assualt rifle before the ban you can do what ever you like to it. You can go to californias DOJ web site if you want to know all the gun laws but ussually that just makes gun lovers want to leave.

gun control is a good thing to have...
thats why i put a Harris bi-pod on my brand new Bushmaster Varminter today :)

as far as claiming to ban assault rifles: its interesting to see that most of the rifles banned dont meet the definition of an assault rifle given in the dictionary but what the govt wants it to be

and as far as banning real assault rifles maybe the govt should read the 2nd amendment and see that were supposed to be allowed to have them and that the 2nd amendment is there to prevent the govt from all this gun control bull ....

I don’t know what the gun laws are like in Canada, but when I first moved to California I could not believe the gun laws here. That was right about the time some politician in Sacramento decided to TRY and pass a law where, if a firearm (ANY firearm) met just ONE requirement out of a list of many, it would be considered an assault weapon. The lunacy in this meant that my buddy’s ‘Brown Bess’ musket would be considered an assault weapon simply because it has a bayonet lug on it.
For those who don’t know, a ‘Brown Bess’ is .75 smooth bore flintlock musket, standard issue to the red coats during the American Revolution. Even a sharp shooter would be hard pressed to hit a barn door at 100 yds.

About gun laws in Canada, yeah they do sound a lot like laws in Cali...In ways I think you get away with things we don't and we get away with things you don't. For example, there is nothing wrong with putting a folding stock on a weapon. And it is still legal to sell and buy high capacity magazines produced before the laws took effect, case in point, Lee Enfields.

At least here we can get a restricted license(Its not that hard...Inconveniant for sure, but doable) that allows us to own certain pistols and plenty of semi-auto battle rifles...They are not just "banned".

Is that how it would work in Cali? Its just banned, and thats that?

I don't mind jumping through hoops and getting the licenses, for the most part, I understand the restrictions. What I don't care for is the registration. If I am allowed to have it, then I shouldn't have to be in a database.
