yea there are a bunch of similarities of the H&K G36 and XM8 right?
G36 is a very nice weapon and from what i hear can go about 20 times longer than my AR-15s can without being cleaned and still work
whats the main differnce between the H&K G36 and XM8?
arnt they built off the same principle?

Im pretty sure they started all over with XM8.....Because when they had the G36 they kept modifing it over and over till they got the G36c. Looks like they started fresh with the new one.....I see very few similar stuff..... that is really rare for HK.....think about it from MP5's to the PSG1...they action on HK rifles is pretty much the same.

G 36s use a gas operated action that vents into the forearm. HK guns of the G36 series use the same reciever and gas tube accept everything is shortened. the XM8 is a G36 action with all the other stuff being made to US Army specs.

just wonergin though will the XM8 be available it the US or only if the AW ban sunsets?

It's got a Red Dot I believe, without the addition of the old 3.5x like on the G36s.

It was primarily designed for reliability, and easy cleaning. It strips down real easy, in only a matter of minutes. I haven't seen the test results from sustained fire yet, but knowing HK, it'll be some impossibly large number. They are also all easily modifiable to other weapons; Only takes a matter of minutes, and can be done in the field.

The XM8 has several variants; Sharpshooter, Carbine, PDW, and SAW. The Carbine (Which will be th basic soldier weapon) has a 12.5 inch or so barrel. The Sharpshooter is simply the Carbine, but with a longer barrel, 20 inches. The PDW has the stock removed and replaced with a cap, and has the barrel reduced to 9 inches. The SAW has a heavy 20 inch barrel, and a bipod. The stock is adjustable.

It'll come with a some under barrel accessories; At the moment there is a 40mm Grenade launcher (XM320) and the LSS (A 12 gauge shotgun). It's going to weigh about 5.7 lbs without Ammo. At this point, I will stop cheating and just link you guys to these;

Stay hush...hush...about the ban lifting....there are alot of people out there with no clue...... we don't need the wrong people knowing about it.

If the ban is in place they will prolly have to do a bunch of mods before they could sell them to the public.....in the states they will have to go as far as removing the detachable mag and perminatly fixing one in there.... dont laugh....this is how they can still sell them in califonia.

ouch
atleast here i can load up a bunch of mags for my M4 and go to the range, shoot 30 rounds, reload, shoot 30 rounds reload etc
i think all american gun owners know about the ban or most gun enthusiasts anyways they wont have to make a fixed magazine for the rest of the US will they?
i keep on seeing single shot AR-15s say legal in Ca
is that true you must have single shot rifles?
and i hear that semi-auto rifle owners must submit to yearly inspections is that true too???
they wanna ban guns there in Ca they should remember that next time they are out gunned they wont be able to go to the local gunshop to get some 'assault rifles' of thier own heh well fine they are ready for a few punks w/ fully auto AKs and body armor now
anyways is the XM8 getting the attention of law enforcement swat units?

I think the XM8 is the best rifle currently being tested by the US - save the caliber of course. The flexibility of the system and the quality and reliability of HK will make this rifle a winner. I know there are some special ops uits testing this weapon and from what I have heard, it beats the crap out of the M4.

There are likely to be a few modifications to the system but it wouldn't surprise me to see these rifles in issue once they get the factory online in Georgia. My only real concern has to do with the optics on this system and how they operate in foul weather and - doing away with iron sites. I am a big believer in optics as standard issue but still wonder how they will deploy in the worst field conditions and their relative cost and endurance. We should know soon enough from the field tests....

Jeff 850:

For assualt style weapons to be legal in California 2 there are a couple of options.

Take a m4 as a example. You could buy one if it has a perminate 10 round mag in it or if you manually have to work the bolt after everyshot. I have even seen similar rifles be sold without the pistol grip (that constitutes a assualt weapon) so the sell it without and you can buy the grip separatly. Putting the grip on turns you into a felon though :?
People will always find a way around that stuff....unwelding fixed mags.... buying the semi...and full auto reciever parts. I think they should lift the ban......someone can do alot worse with a 12 guage then a ak-47.

As far as the XM8 for LE Swat teams....seems doubtful. Most swat teams will stick to smg's unless they think the suspect has a form of armor....typically the m4's stay on the truck....contrary to what is seen in movies  the M4 is not a very good CQB weapon...not just by its size but the round itself likes to bounce if it doesn't tear though walls. Swat teams were looking at the UMP's but they really didn't go for the .45 smg idea.

MP5 is probably the best CQB weapon but the UMP i would have assumed is good.. whats wrong with a .45 cal smg?
i hear UMP and MP5 are illegal for me a US citizen or atleast me a Ct resident w/ out a class III
i had to settle for a Ruger PC9 9mm carbine which has worked great for shooting indoors since there are no close outdoor ranges :( and also good for home defence cause it wouldnt penetrate nearly as far as 5.56mm can so i woudlnt use my M4 for that
stock is a bit heavier so i could break someones jaw w/ it if i had to wack someone.. still just cheap plastic heh
whats wrong with the UMP .45 cal or big smgs? recoil on them isnt that bad.. i have fired other .45 cal carbines.. it will stop someone just fine and shoudlnt over penetrate too much either

You can get a mp5 in semi auto mode ....like the HK-94 (pic below).....it just comes with a long barrel.....real long. And guess what....cutting it down makes you a felon....just like everything else

As far as the UMP.....the MP5 works.....and has always worked. The UMP has not been in the field long enough for agencys too start buying them up. Wear and tear....reliability....jam issues...increase cost in ammo. These are all big things departments have to consider. Lets not forget the people making those choices sometimes have no weapons experiance.

You have to pay for a class III weapon...you cannot modify one you have. Thats why they have all the federal transfer stuff. What on earth costs $12,000 besides like a MP5SD?
