I wanna break the mood, to a lot more joyous for this post. Most of us (all of us) love music. The sound but most importanly the lyrics. That is my case. Me being a musician, i view music from a different angle. I my self am complicated w/ this because I mainly perfer rap/hip hop, but yet I play guitar and have plans to be in a band with a female volcalist. I love listening to rock only for their lyrics because I believe only rock and country have thebest lyrics. Besides the lyrics I absolutly love the guitar parts!

My first song and I will post (the other two after I get your top songs), is from Simple Plan and it is called Welcome to My Life. Good acoustics, and awsome beat with the drums and guitar. The song is in my signature. Thats part of the first verse. Me being 17, I have tons of stuff going on in my life and times where I just don't know what to do or why to do it or even move on. Along with mood swings for no reason, it just sucks at times. This song I can relate to so much. The bridge/chorus are very truthfull but the verses are more detailed in what goes on for a teen in their life. Here it is:

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you
Do you ever wanna runaway?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more?
Before your life is over
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding

No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life

No one ever lied straight to your face
No one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
Never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like (what it's like)

To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life
Welcome to my life

My favorite song would have to be "Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight" by the Dropkick Murphys. This is what they said about the song

"We got the lyrics from the archives of unpublished Woody Guthrie lyrics it was written in the 1940's about World War II air raids"

Gonna Be A Blackout
Gonna nail me a black curtain
Up good an' tight
Gonna do what my air raid man says is right
Gonna pull down the shades
An' turn out my light
There's gonna be a Blackout

'Cause my town is big and my town is bright
My town can work and my town can fight!
So don't strike no light and don't cause a riot
There's gonna be a blackoout tonight

Blackout tonight!

(chorus)
Gonna be a Blackout, Blackout tonight
Gonna be a Blackout, gonna be a Blackout
Gonna do what my air raid man says is right
Blackout tonight, pull down the shades and turn out the light

Lights go out all over town and the air raid warden walks up and down
'Cause it's part of the war, I gotta do it right there's
Gonna be a blackout tonight

(chorus)
Lights go out
All over town
And the air raid warden walks up and down
'Cause it's part of the war
I'm gonna do right
There's gonna be a Blackout, Blackout tonight.

Edit: JC71,if you want a song with good lyrics and awsome instrumentals (sp?) try and get Black Friday Rule by Flogging Molly,I can send it to you if you have MSN IM.Its a great 7 minute song with an almost 2 minute guitar/drum duo i guess youd call it.

heres the lyrics http://www.lyricsondemand.com/f/floggin ... yrics.html

'Fade to Black' -Metallica

Life it seems, will fade away
Drifitng further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matter no one else
I hav elost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone

No one but me can save myself, but it's too late
Now I can't think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death Greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye

I 'll go ahead and post my other 2...

Creed - Freedom Fighter

"Freedom Fighter"

The mouths of envious
Always find another door
While at the gates of paradise they beat us down some more
But our mission's set in stone
'Cause the writing's on the wall
I'll scream it from the mountain tops pride comes before the fall

So many thoughts to share
All this energy to give
Unlike those who hide the truth I tell it like it is
If the truth will set you free
I feel sorry for your soul
Can't you hear the ringing 'cause for you the bell tolls

[Chorus]
I'm just a freedom fighter
No remorse
Raging on in holy war
Soon there'll come a day
When you're face to face with
Face to face with me

Can't you hear us coming?
People marching all around
Can't you see we're coming?
Close your eyes it's over now
Can't you hear us coming?
The fight has only just begun
Can't you see we're coming?

I'm just a freedom fighter
No remorse
Raging on in holy war
Soon there'll come a day
When your face to face with me
Face to face with me

Drowning Pool - Love and War

Promise that you always will
Keep candles lit on the windowsill
You know I'll be comin' home

You know I never wanted to go away
But what am I supposed to say
When I hear the sounds of the trumpet call
Who says

All is fair in love and war

Your pictures kept close to my heart
Letters all but fall apart
Each night I read them over again

You know I never wanted to go away
But what am I supposed to say
When I hear the sounds of the trumpet call
Who says

You know I never wanted to go away
I swear
Its war

These two songs just reach out and grab me, especially "Love and War". Describes amany a serviceman right now.

Softly and Tenderly

By Will L. Thompson--1880

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He's waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.

Come home, come home,
Ye who are weary, come home;
Earnestly, tenderly Jesus is calling,
Calling, O sinner, come home!

Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading?
Pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies<
Mercies for you and for me?

Hi jc71corvette,

I am not going to put down the lyrics, but my favorite songs are "The Cowboy Song" by Thin Lizzy (spell ?), "Little Joe the Wrangler" by the late Chris Ledoux, "This beat goes on/Switchin' to glide", by The Kings.

Hey man, I am 52 but I get along well with people alot younger than myself and also just about anyone. I know when I was 17 I had all kinds of mood swings and such. My older brother was in the 'Nam, I was going to join the regular Army when I turned 18, ended up going into the National Guard.

Sometimes when you are young things kind of appear grey and you are at that place in life where you try to figure out what you are going to do with yourself. Hope you have fun and keep playing music, and shooting your guns. Take care of yourself dude !!!

"Freedom" by Jimi Hendrix

You got my pride
hanging out of my bed
You're messin' around with my life
So I bought my ...
You even mess with my children
And you're screamin' at my wife, baby
Get off my back,
if you wanna get outta here alive

Freedom, give it to me
That's what I want now
Freedom, that's what I need now
Freedom to live
Freedom, so I can give

You got my heart
speak electric water
You got my soul
screamin' and howlin'
You know you hook my girlfriend
You know the drugstore man
But I don't need it now
I was trying to slap it out of her head

Freedom, so I can give
Freedom, yeah
Freedom, that's what I need

You don't have to say that you love
if you don't mean it
You'd better believe
If you need me
or you just wanna bleed me
you'd better stickin' your dagger in someone else
So I can leave
Set me free

(Yeah)

Right on, straight ahead
Stay up and straight ahead
Freedom

I've got too many good songs going on now to list all the lyrics but here are a few

Creed-One
Pearl Jam-Alive
Red Hot Chilli Peppers-Power of Equality
Days of the New-Touch, Peel and Stand
Paul Brandt-Convoy (New video, used to sing that song with my dad a lot)
Headstones-Marigolds, or Smile and Wave, or well, lots of Headstones lol
Country fans check out Big and Rich, they are pretty funny.

JC man, you're gonna be a Marine pretty soon! Don't let things get you down, you have all kinds of potential out there, and you seriously never know what kind of opportunities just come along out of the blue.

Simple Plan is from Quebec, no?

Thank you guys so much. Today (Wed) has been awsome. Marines called up getting a "interview" underway. Awsome day today! I'll get there some day and think back on all this. And have a good laugh or two.

Muzz, yes SP is from Canada but can't remember the specifcs. Lots of good main stream rock is from Canada aaaaaayeeee. lol

Ductape, good lyrics to the song you requested. :)

My next song is about suicide and its from Good Charlotte called Hold On. I HIGHLY recommend this Music Video. Through out the song they pause the music and show suicide victims and surviors. Very emotional and such a tear dropper.
Just google "Watch Good Charlotte Hold On "and youll get it.

Hold on by Good Charlotte from the Young and the Hopeless album
This world, this world is cold
But you don’t, you don’t have to go
You’re feeling sad you’re feeling lonely
And no one seems to care
You’re mother’s gone and your father hits you
This pain you cannot bare

But we all bleed the same way as you do
We all have the same things to go thru

Hold on...if you feel like letting go
Hold on...it gets better than you know

Your days you say they’re way too long
And your nights you can’t sleep at all (hold on)
And you’re not sure what you’re looking for
But you don’t want to no more
And you’re not sure what you’re waiting for but you don’t want to no more

But we all bleed the same way as you do
And we all have the same things to go through

Hold on...if you feel like letting go
Hold on...it gets better than you know

Don’t stop looking you’re one step closer
Don’t stop searching it’s not over...hold on

What are you looking for?
What are you waiting for?
Do you know what you’re doing to me?
Go ahead...what are you waiting for?

Hold on...if you feel like letting go
Hold on...it gets better than you know

Don’t stop looking you’re one step closer
Don’t stop searching it’s not over...

Hold on...if you feel like letting go
Hold on...it gets better than you know...hold on

Cool, I'm a pretty big fan of the Good Charlotte song myself. Yup, SP is from Quebec then, I am pretty sure. We do have some pretty good music too but we are usually unsure if we should like it or not until we know it is cool enough for the States lol. Seriously, that is just how it works.

Good luck with the interview, and congrats!

The problems I had at 17 all seemed like things that were earth-shakingly profound, and that no one else had it as bad as me, etc....Today man, I just look back on things and see how trivial teen angst is. Didn't feel like it at the time, but it just happens that way. I had my head up my @$$, so to speak, but I think it helped me out in the long run to figure out that life was what I could make of it, and no one but me could change it.

The USMC is a way to make your life something to take pride in, look at all the Marines here...and Army, and LE, and everyone else.

Im listening to Nothing Else Matters-Metallica My musical ear is picking up the acoustic tabs from it :)

Muzz, many told me that years from now you will notice how dumb certain things are that were once important to you as a teen. I understand the concept but don't know it personaly (for obvious reasons)
YOu can say my head is up my a$$. The Corps is just one of those THINGS in my life that really motivates me. Its just my thing. There is going to be things i hate but still, in the end im a Marine.

I know how you felt with the feeling that no one feels the way you do. I hate that feeling of isolation and emptiness and "lonliness". Even though up up there on the social ladder at school, theres just times where you feel so alone. I havnt had that for a long time. phheew. One thing im noticing is my early teen years i had little problems like this. But sense 16+ its all hitting me now. Hmm. Now im listening to Fade to Black. sweet distortion! Easy to play.

Yeah with the Corps I need parental signature to be DEP'ed. But this interview just is talk, and parents hate that as it is. When it comes time to DEP, ill just say hey either I do it now w/ your help or when im 18 (19NOV) I will do it my self. My point is I WILL DO IT. IF you let me DEP now, it'll just help me more. O well.

You could say heh. I'm complicated w/ music. I dont look like Good Charlotte by far, I dress normal. But yet I love their music and also rap. Its weird.

Hey I like CCR, Buffalo Springfield, Rolling Stones too. heh

This isnt my 3rd song, but:

CCR-Bad Moon Rising

I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin’.
I see bad times today.

Chorus:
Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Chorus
All right!

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we’re in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.

This song remindes me for song reason of those that were in 'nam and they listened to this song one night/day before they did patrols, raids, what have you and they didn't make it back. "Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life" sums it up for me.

Recoil probably wants all of us to hold hands and sing "coumbaya" around a fire he built by rubbing chicken fat on a...marital aid

JC, I hear ya man. I don't think your head is up your @$$ at all...I just know mine was! There is lots of stuff I wish I could have redone, but such is life.

How about good old "I disappear"?

And Recoil, how about Clapton, or Stevie Ray Vaughn?
