Optic for a 308 "Battle Rifle"

I'm purchasing an AR-10 (308) in the next month.

It will be a 16" barreled DPMS patterned 308 with a heavy barrel, and rifle length gas (shortened 20" Ballistics Advantage Heavy 0.93" barrel), run suppressed 90% of the time (SilencerCo Omega).

Primary usage will be Florida hogs, up to 100yd shooting, with the occasional session out to 600yds from the bench.

I'm leaning toward one of the decent quality 1-4 or 1-6 optics. Reasoning... Most of my hunting shots will be low-light 25-40 yards, so a true illuminated 1X bottom end is a better option than a 2.5-10X. When I do need to stretch to 100 yards, I'll have time to dial it up to 4X or 6X. I own a 4-16X50 that I can throw on if I take it out farther, but I think on big game size targets... 4X-6X is plenty, even out to 500 yards. I'm comfortable with hold-overs, so a FFP 1-4 or 1-6 that will handle the abuse of a short-barreled 308... seems perfect.

I'm assuming a one-piece mount with QD is the way to go? I own a Larue SPR-E on a Bushnell Throw-Down1-4 that's on my 3-Gun Upper (I might get another just like it!).

Opinions? Best picks in the $500 range? $750 range? $1000 range? I don't think I need to spend $1000 on a 1-6. Environment will be mostly hot, and frequently wet (Florida), so fog is an issue.

I just left WPB last evening heading home to Atlanta.
Saw some feral hogs along the turnpike.
You will never run out of targets.
My Leupold VX-R patrol doesn't get down to a true 1X.
Clear enough though. I
Trijicon Accupower is a true 1X for a bit more.
Side by side it had slightly better glass and more reticle options.
If I were to buy again I would go Trijicon but it is only 4X top end.
My Leopold was $200 less. Better battery life with the auto shut off and motion activated turn on with the Leupold. That was the trade off that pushed me to the Leupold. Beside the bed pick it up and it is ready.
My use was CMP Service Rifle rules that limit to 4.5X tops.
If the Vortex Strike Eagle was an Illuminated Reticle, that would be a winner 1-6X.
Viper PST 1-4 is an option.

The strike eagle is illuminated. I have one mounted on my Ar-15.

It works well for me. Where I go shooting there is an old freon tank (about 12") 400 yards out, no problems seeing it or hitting it. The illumination on high is pretty bright, so no problem if your looking at a dark background. The turrets have a good click feel and the magnification ring is just right as far as being stiff enough not to turn on it's own, but not difficult to turn.

Just started looking at the Primary Arms 1-8X24. NOT the Platinum series at $1200, but the basic in the mid-300s.
Also the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6.

As a hunting scope... DAMN that looks like a great set-up. I've heard a lot of good reviews on the PA stuff. I own 2 PA red-dots. They are NOT AimPoints... but they're NOT BAD! No issues with durability, fog, etc.

I know the Vortex is lifetime warranted... which is nice...

Anybody with PA experience? PA vs Vortex?

I'm using Burris 1.5-8x CB MIL

And for a DMR, out to 600yds I really like it. I used to have the VO g2 1-6x MILR and for your purpose that might be the one for you. I wanted to be able to get out to 600yds and have good reticle support for over 400yds and I felt the VO reticle was not sufficient for my needs for the LR aspect. I was better for short range hunting ... best glass I've ever seen and great dot. It is on the heavy side, but then so is the Burris.
So depends on your priorities. The VO g2 1-6x MILR is approachable at $1000 ... I got mine with the ADM recon mount for under $1000, but that was a special street, but there are some special streets out there.

The B1.5-8x has the reticle as FFP (whereas many scopes in this class, like the VO g2 1-6x are SFP) ... but the circle dot is SFP, so one mil circle at 8x and 5 mil circle and 1.5x ... very innovative!
