I'm very keen on getting a new Tikka Battue in either .308 or 6.5 x 55 as my hunting rifle.
This would replace my current "as issued" 1942 Husqvarna M38.
The reasons I like this Tikka are the open sights, the built-in scope rail and the stock ..... (it fits me well)
For those who may not know, the open sights have inlaid bright-glo acrylic pieces, a green dot each side of the V in the rear, and a red dot on the fore sight that works in conjunction with three short red strips set into a ramp.
This ramp is about 5 inches long and runs forward and up to the back of the rear V.
When shooting with open sights under dense bush or forrest where the light is low, the bright-glo is vibrant and the ramp strips take your eye straight to the foresight.
It's the best open sight system I have ever seen.
The plan is to get some high quality quick-detach mounts for a scope like a Leupold 1.5 - 5 Mk 4 with illuminated reticle and a belt pouch that will allow snap-on snap-off use of the scope when coming out into open areas from forrest.
This is where the range often increases from 30 to 100 metres (open sights) out to around 350 metres where scoped is good.
My question for the collective inteligence and experience is ...... "What are your experiences with this rifle and do you have any comments or recomendations about the usefullness or otherwise of such a set-up?"
I'm favouring .308 for standardization of my rifle calibres but I love the 6.5 Swede as a round ..... it's just soooo sweet to shoot ......
