I'll try to keep this brief as im sure its been talked about before, but I would really appreciate any insight you guys can provide.
I recently purchased a TA31F for my SR-15 and strongly dislike the stock (TA51) mount. I've googled every variation of larue vs bobro vs ADM there is and the only negative I can find about the Larue is that it can 'mark/gouge' your rail. Seeing as my upper is approx $1,900, i'd really hate to gouge it as i'm guessing there is no way to fix a gouged rail, correct? Finish marks and blemishes dont bother me but a gouge absolutely would. So, my question is:
Is it possible for a Larue QD mount (LT100 in this case) to actually gouge your rails? Has this happened to anyone?
I'm sure people will ask why i'm even considering the Larue mount if this is a concern. To be honest its because I dont really trust the Bobro's. I dont know how they work and there seem to be an awful lot of moving parts (which have been known to fail). They also seem to be somewhat of a 'soft mount'. When I build or buy something I want it to be the best. In my limited opinion, Larue seems to be the best but the thought of permanently damaging my rails gives me some pause.
With regards to the Bobro mount, everyone swears that it doesnt mark your rails. But I dont really understand this because there is still metal on metal contact. Which means that it is either:
A) making more contact with the rail (good)
or
B) not making a strong enough contact with the rail (bad)
