Unless the 10 is like the Axis and the action on all calibers is long, the 223 is a short action and there for you need a short action rail.

You can have up to.308 on the short action but you can also (with exception of few calibers) have those in a long action. You said it is a savage 10 meaning it's a short action the long action would be a "110" so get the short action base and it depends how far you will be shooting out to Wethers you will need + moa base

 

With a .223 your not going to be shooting much past 600 max, I'd go with a 0 MOA base for that caliber.

Well with his Bushnell Banner 3-9 scope and .233 he's not going to shoot very accurate past that. No offense OP. But your setup isn't a long distance one.

Short answer, it was $45 on amazon with free 2 day shipping and got good reviews. Long answer, it came recommended from my local gun store as a decent quality, reasonably priced scope. Also, where I live the longest range is 100m, the only place I'll be shooting further than that is killing gophers at my friends ranch.

Think about this for a minute. You want to shoot accurately at 600+ yards and you just spent more money on rings than you did a scope.

With that scope it doesn't matter what rings and base you get. The reality is that scope is only good for zeroing at 100 and leaving it.

If you are really wanting to shoot at distance then take the advice you have been given and step up to a higher quality optic with quality and features necessary to accomplish your goal. Most shooters spend more on optics than on the gun.

Like was said. Minimum necessary would be SWFA fixed or elite 3200 fixed. These scopes will track well and hold a zero and have externally adjustable turrets.

Btw-- I would find a different gun shop as well. If they recommended that scope then they are either just trying to make a sale or they don't know what they are talking about (which most really don't).

 

Where I live, the longest I'll be shooting is 100 meters, maybe 200 if I go to my friends ranch. Also, the rings I got from a friend who is getting rid of his old rifle, they were $10. I'm building this as cheaply as possible to avoid having to live on the street next month. Maybe in a couple years I'll make enough to justify spending upwards of $400 on a scope, but that's not realistic right now.

Then don't buy the scope this month. Save your $45 this month, add another $50 next month, then again, and again.

Following your advice, I canceled the order on the Bushnell scope. I made a few calls, found a buddy who has a Bushnell XLT Trophy 3-9 or a Redfield Revenge 3-9 40mm, and he'll let me pay him over the next couple months, total of $100. Good deal?

 

The revenge is a great entry scope but if long range is what you're wanting to do it's not going to do it for you. But a great hunting scope
