guess it's time to rethink my plans, I was planing on doing the SPS tactical in 308, with an upgraded stock I'm not set on the gun but I do want a 20 inch barrel.
i am wanting to do a rifle similar to the two $800 and $980 dollars sniper rifle builds on the homepage, i saw that, and thats what convinced me to join this great site.

I suppose you could get the left handed action, then build it from the ground up. It would probably be a bit of a pain, but I'm sure it'd be worth it in the end. Plus you have a totally custom (self built) rifle!

the southpaw SPS Varmint is probably your best bet, you could have the barrel chopped and re-crowned for a couple hundred bucks. Other than that I'm sure you can go to Brownell's and order a leftie action, then put a 20 inch ER Shaw barrel on it and a stock of your choice. Either way you're looking at spending an extra couple hundred bucks just for a leftie bolt. If your intentions are to use it solely in the benchrest/prone positions you may want to look into getting a right handed action and use your non-shooting hand to cycle the bolt. It takes a little bit of getting used to but once you have it down it's a very efficient way of cycling the action.

Welcome to the club

Dear friend,

I too have the worst affliction in the gun industry. If this depresses you, try looking for a semi-auto anything, as that is far worse.

I weighed a lot of options, and ultimately did as people here described, and purchased the SPS Varmint in .308. I purchased this gun for the action, as I wanted to do a .260 build. Since you want .308, you will have the opportunity to shoot out the Remington barrel.

PM me if you would like to know where I acquired various components, as finding the stock will also be an interesting experience.

I think detached retina has you beat. That said, southpaw ARs aren't too hard to find/build nowadays, and the FAL is pretty lefty friendly.

yeah, I'll probably just use a right handed weapon, I was raised up shooting them, (arkansas) hunting most every day, it is actually pretty sweet in the prone, you dont have to move your trigger finger, I would keep my non firing hand on the bolt, and could cycle it pretty damn fast. but it would be nice to have the right gun for a change.

I have a lefty SPS varmint. Waiting for my bolt with the Tac-Ops knob to return from Matt (thanks Matt!) and then off it goes to a local smith to have the barrel cut to 20" and nicely nestled into a Manners T-3.
