I vote Counter Sniper, NCStar, Tasco, BSA, and (insert Chinese brand here) amongst the worst and best as an overall quality of brand to be Nightforce, S&B, US Optics, Swarovski, Premier, and March. Nightforce is extremely rugged while March has the best glass so, IMO those two are tied.

 

There were some tasco scopes that were /are ok but they were only brought in from all over the far east so if you got a Japanese one then it is probably still going but the other end of the scale were the ones labeled tasco Asia. I have a 4-16 x 40 that has done 26 years on a 22!

Unfortunately, the "Best Scope" is the one that the person commenting owns. The "Worst Scope" is what the other guy bought

A key to selecting the Best Scope for your needs is to first define your needs. I have "inexpensive" scopes ($300-$400 range) tat were made in China and are perfect for some hunting and target shooting. I also have some "Top End" scopes ($2,000 up) that I use when I'm serious about total accuracy and performance.

Somewhere in there is a good scope for YOUR needs.

 

Have a look at precision rifle blog. It's a good reference and only a reference. It would help if you indicated you budget and purpose for the optic. This question is almost impossible to answer. It's like deciding what's better cinnamon rolls or sticky buns

Often with the same logic being applied. Buy the one that is bigger and looks "more delicious". That's why a lot of "100 yard Club Shooters" have huge NightForce or S&B scopes on their rifles that will never see a shooting distance over 300 yards.
