If I were on a limited budget and only had $5000 to spend I would not buy a 50bmg. Matter of fact...if money were unlimited I would not buy a 50 because there are so many rounds that are so much more ballistically better than 50bmg.

 

Agree. There are a lot of other calibers out there that is just as much fun in terms of platform and ammo.

 

Maybe the guy just wants to sling 700gr bullets and doesn't care about cost effective or efficient. Were those the only considerations, I don't think another 45-70 would be sold.

 

Ok. Well if you just want a 50 BMG because it is cool...then a barret 99 fits the bill. I have shot one and the muzzle blast is absolutely impressive...however it is not going to win any precision contests. I have a buddy looking to sell his entire barret 99 kit and with ammo, scope, bipod, pelican case and all would come in under 5k. If you are interested pm me and I will get you in touch with him.

My choice for extended long range would be a desert tech HTI, but it is not within your budget. I would rather save and buy quality than buy something that doesn't preform later.

However I would be looking at something in the cheytec family instead of the barret variety.

 

At least .50 BMG ammo is relatively cheap, can source it locally for under $3 a pop. Thats cheap fun.

Ball 50bmg may be cheap. Match grade is not.

 

Check out the Armalite AR-50. Between the giant brake, and interesting chassis design, I feel like it fills the cool factor, plus they make one a match grade one that's suppose to be decently accurate.

So far the Barrett M99 .50 BMG Rifle 13307, with the 32" barrel is the best choice to me, I can get it brand new for $3800.

 

I look forward to seeing it in the for sale section of the forum for $2500 in a few months.

 

The Lower price so far I was able to find was from ceterfireguns foe $3267

 

I'm not trying to assume something or undermine you in any way, but out of curiosity; what is your shooting experience in life thus far? Basically I'm asking why do you want a 50?
